Designing for Change
The images we hold about ourselves and our world shape our behavior. In this course, participants learn to unlock the power of image to help clients transform their current reality into the future they seek and create effective and lasting change.

Facilitators seek to create environments, contexts, and processes that help move toward a desired future. Often what is holding the present in place — attitudes, practices, approaches — limits the ability to move forward. Image Shift methods help facilitators and their clients look more deeply at the current state and then, help “shift” the group toward the desired future.

This is a course for trainers, designers, facilitators, and others who lead people and group processes.  TFM is a pre-requisite

This workshop is hosted by Brigid Riley and a team of experienced ToP Trainers!

Facilitating Conciliation
"There is conflict within my organization, and often with stakeholders outside the organization. I am asked to intercede or facilitate in these situations. How can I use facilitation skills to get all parties on board and on track?"

Facilitating Conciliation is a two-day course designed for the person who needs to work with conflict among individuals and groups. Rather than “managing” or “dealing with” conflict, this course works with the underlying root cause of systemic conflict. People can work together and form solutions even when conflict is built-in, normal and will not go away. Facilitating Conciliation works in all these situations.

As a facilitator working through a conflict situation, after taking this course you will have:
• An understanding of types and levels of conflict, and interventions.
• Methods and skills for discussion and dialogue.
• Methods and skills for problem solving.
• A proven way to proceed, regardless of the conflict.
• Tips, tools and practical applications for use.

This course includes demonstration of methods, theory, applications, and practice sessions. It also includes a large array of ICA ToP™ and non-ToP™ tools which can be applied in many situations, as well as manuals, books and other reference material.

You are encouraged to bring difficult conflict situations that you are part of or are trying to facilitate a resolution. We will try to incorporate these into the course, to understand the nature of conflict, or to consider approaches, or illustrate the use of tools.

This workshop is hosted by Bill Staples,
Principal of ICA Associates Inc.

MAKING DATA DANCE
Learn how to design lively and useful data review sessions with full participant engagement in this one day session.

This course looks at designing participatory processes for data gathering and analysis. We will look at two case studies of participatory data gathering and review that used Focused Conversation and Consensus Workshop methods.   Trainees will actively participate in and get "hands-on"" experience with the methods illustrated in the case studies.

Additionally, we will look at how to collect information/data so that it is easier to review in a group setting:
  • Use the review and analysis process as the first step to taking action;
  • Design data review processes so that all members of the group can participate and engaged;
  • Create a ""requirements matrix"" that demonstrates a quick and easy way to see stakeholders’ perceptions of the organization's products and/or services
  • Design a participatory process to improve the data review and analysis sessions you bring to the course to explore."

This course teaches participants how to increase and expand their use of ToP Methods by learning how to apply them in creating participatory data gathering and analysis processes which use Focused Conversation and Consensus Workshop.  It also reinforces a ToP stance of inclusive participation and profound respect. The techniques taught in this course are very useful in working with design teams.  TFM is pre-requisite.

This course is taught by Kathleen Paulo, CTF and Qualified Trainer, and an associate and trainer with the Center for Strategic Facilitation.  Amy Murphy is a Certified ToP Facilitator, Qualified Trainer and an ICA Board Member.

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES
Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) are ongoing, structured opportunities for teams within an organization, or people in similar roles from collaborating organizations, to learn from each other, reflect on practice, and hold each other accountable in their professional growth.

In this training of trainers, participants will explore the latest research on adult learning, and more importantly, how that learning can be translated into consistent implementation of practices on the job. We’ll collaboratively create a set of micro-practices ( or “sparks”) that support the design and facilitation of learning communities.

This workshop is designed for both emerging and experienced facilitators who would like to learn how to design and facilitate professional learning communities.

Participants will work together to:
  • Learn about the benefits of professional learning communities, and how they support adult learning, habit-formation, growth mindset, and improved professional practices;
  • Gain an understanding of the key considerations in designing a PLC;
  • Learn and develop best practices for transformational facilitation, where the PLC participants hold the responsibility for identifying where they want to grow, and what they commit to practice;
  • And receive tools and frameworks to support them in implementing PLCs, including peer-coaching models, personal action-planning tools, timelines, etc.

This workshop is hosted by Eva Jo Meyers and Oscar Wolters-Duran, the creators of a set of professional development tools called Spark Decks, and experienced facilitators of professional learning communities throughout California.
